Director and Registered Music Therapist
Jo Barrow is a Registered Music Therapist based in Canberra. She has extensive expreince working within Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and with children with disabilities. She also has experience working in aged care, dementia, adult mental health and developmental delays. Jo graduated from JMC academy in 2015 with a bachelors of Music and Contemporary Performance, and from Western Sydney University in 2017 with a Masters of Creative Music Therapy. Jo's main instrument is her voice, majoring in vocals in both her bachelors and masters degrees. Jo mainly uses piano and guitar to accompany herself, however can play a vairety of instruments.
Believing in a person-centred approach, Jo enjoys getting to the know the personalities, interests and passions of clients to develop individualised musical interventions to enhance overall wellbeing.
Jo has worked with children and adolescence with ASD and developmental delays predominately for the first 4 years of her career, working in a school dedicated to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She has experience in a school setting, working daily with students alongside Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Art Therapist and Teachers, getting the opportunity to interact with them across all parts of their day. Because of this she has specialised and unique experience working wihtin Autism Spectrum Disorder.
